According to a report today, a new ME title is “in early stages of design”.
This really shouldn’t come as too much of a shock to anyone since it’s fairly common knowledge that there would be more games in the Mass Effect universe coming at some point. Bioware co-founder Ray Muzyka said as much earlier this year and producer Fabrice Condominas even went so far as to say in an interview that the game will have a brand new protagonist.
Now it’s a little more definite though as executive producer Casey Hudson Tweeted: “We’re in early stages of designing a completely new Mass Effect game. What would you want to see in it?”
The prospect of a completely new Mass Effect game is an exciting one. It’s a huge universe that the games inhabit after all and there’s a tremendous backstory that, although has been featured in both comics and novels, has largely been unexplored in the games.
Will the new series have any ties (storywise) to the blockbuster ‘Shepard’ trilogy that Bioware just capped off? From the statement, it seems like it won’t. I also have to wonder if the Shepard character will figure into the game at all since his/her end was left somewhat ambiguous at the close of ME3. Either way, it should be interesting to see what’s cooking
