GTA5 rakes in 800 million- on day one

The first day of sale for Rockstar Games’ newest means a whopping 800 million dollars in sales.

There’s big, and then there’s big. Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V appears to be firmly in the latter category of largeness as the action/open world game about a trio of criminals on the American west coast destroyed pretty much every record in existence as far as sales are concerned.

Within it’s first complete day of sale (globally) GTA5 made 800 million USD. To put that in perspective, the previous ‘record holder’ was Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 which made 500 million. Half a billion is no chump change by anyone’s count, but it’s way shy of GTA’s new mark.

I guess people really, really (really) like Grand Theft Auto. The game is available now on both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 from Rockstar Games and Take-Two.
