A 90s RTS gets a multiplayer update, as KKND goes 1.0

Thanks to Ziggurat Interactive and modder Andre ‘IceReaper’ Mohren, Krush Kill ‘N Destroy has some fresh multiplayer.

KKND goes online

If you were playing real-time strategy titles on your PC back in 1997, you might be familiar with Krush Kill ‘N Destroy. More familiarly called KKND, Krush Kill ‘N Destroy hailed from Beam Software, and featured a brutal, post-apocalyptic world.

In it, players could take command of two factions, the technologically advanced survivors of the cataclysm, or the mutants set to oppose them. The two groups would do battle over the remnants of the globe in not only the original title, but also a revamp and a full-on sequel. That was then though, and 1997 was almost three decades in the rearview mirror.

Today, both the revamp (Krush Kill ‘N Destroy Xtreme) and its sequel, called Krush Kill ‘N Destroy 2: Krossfire, are available on the PC via Steam. But they’re not exactly just legacy titles, as you might’ve assumed. That’s because publisher Ziggurat has just revealed that both of those classics have a brand new update.

Yes, it’s an update 30 (some odd) years in the making, as Krush Kill ‘N Destroy Xtreme and Krush Kill ‘N Destroy 2: Krossfire have received “modern multiplayer features”. That shakes out to mean online multi, which arrives thanks to series-modder Andre ‘IceReaper’ Mohren.

There’s more than just the online option too, as update 1.0 also drops in new display resolutions, mod support, and more.

The updates, which also add newly supported display resolutions, windowed mode, improved mod support, and greater localisation, compliment an already robust single-player campaign. Battle tooth, claw and tentacle in a fight for precious oil across dozens of hand-crafted missions, controlling more than 50 air, land, and amphibious units who will brave the harsh environments on your behalf.

Update 1.0 is out as you read this, for both Krush Kill ‘N Destroy Xtreme and Krush Kill ‘N Destroy 2: Krossfire on Steam. The two games are also available via GOG. Fans who own the games via that outlet can look for the update as well, though later this year. Also worth noting, is that there’s a physical “Classic Edition” on the way as well, via Reboxy, which you can watch for later this year.

Salepocalypse

To celebrate the release of Krush Kill ‘N Destroy Xtreme and Krush Kill ‘N Destroy 2: Krossfire‘s update 1.0, Ziggurat has unleashed a slew of sale prices via Steam. Those include the above mentioned PC games, which both get a whopping 60% off prices, but also some of the company’s other offerings.

Those include:

  • King’s Table – The Legend of Ragnarok (80% off) – Best your opponent in an ancient, Chess-like board game, in a strategic, tactical battle against CPU-controlled Norse legends or a friend in multiplayer.
  • M.U.D.S.: Mean Ugly Dirty Sport (65% off) – Need more excuses to put mutants in the dirt? This top-down action sports game is a grisly take on the gridiron, featuring RPG mechanics and questionable refereeing.
  • MicroProse™ Soccer (60% off) – Keep yourself entertained post-World Cup with this classic, pixel-art take on the beautiful game.
  • The Train: Escape to Normandy (70% off) – Play as a member of the French Resistance, rescuing an armored train full of smuggled artifacts from the Third Reich, aiming to take it back to Allied territory. Defend the train from attacks and manage resources in this shooter that not even Deutsche Bahn delays could hold back.
  • Deadly Dozen Reloaded (65%) – This full remake of squad-based third-person shooter packs a punch, as well as upgraded maps, graphics, and missions.
