From the sound of it, Activision and Iron Galaxy’s new Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 is shaping up to be quite user friendly.
Whoo those are a lotta options
It’s no stretch to say that Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater has been one of the biggest and best skate franchises in the history of gaming. Even though there were games that had the theme before THPS‘ original launch in 1999, you could probably even go so far as to say that it launched the modern video game version of the sport. But one thing that it’s always been for sure, is pretty tough.
Of course there are those who took to it like a second nature, but the games included under its umbrella have never been a cake-walk. And there’s good reason for that, as the challenge and trickiness of some of the… tricks are part of the fun. That said though, there’s also an argument to be made that some of the above has been off-putting for some potential players, and could conceivably limited its audience (to a degree).
Well, if you were in that lot, then you might want to give the rapidly approaching Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 a long look. Activision has just revealed that the game will include a hearty and robust selection of options, all of which are meant to tailor the game to the player.
So yeah, you can play it straight like classic THPS if you’d like. But you can also adjust the time limit to sixty minutes, add and remove “perfect balance” for different instances, speed the game way up, and even select “no bails”. All in all, while the option to do any of this stuff will likely ruffle the feathers of some long time players, we’re thinking it’s a pretty cool set of options to have. And that may or may not have something to do with our inability to pull off some of the game’s longer combos. We’ll leave that open for interpretation.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 drops on July 11th.
