Another Nightdive Studios remaster has arrived for modern consoles and the PC, with Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion.
The last good Turok
With the first two installments of the N64 first-person shooter series in the bag for years at this point, Nightdive Studios finally went back for part three. The least known of the series, Shadow of Oblivion was a critically well-received FPS, but one that kind of got overlooked. It’s easy to see why, since it debuted in 2000, which was fairly close to the end of the N64’s life cycle.
That obscurity is something that genre fans can set right though, as the remaster is out right now and looking terrific. Nightdive knows what its doing with these, and has revamped the original via the new KEX engine, delivering “high-resolution textures, enhanced lighting and rendering”, according to the company.
In Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion, players choose between dual protagonists Joseph and Danielle Fireseed, siblings of Turok 2: Seeds of Evil protagonist Joshua Fireseed. Together, they must defeat the titular antagonist Oblivion and its followers, the Flesh Eaters, after the supposed demise of their brother at its hands.
