The PS5 will launch with new PlayStation Studios

Sony is getting official with it’s in-house studios. They’ll all be together under one heading, PlayStation Studios, for the launch of the PS5.

One Studio to rule them all

If you already assumed Sony had a “PlayStation Studios” brand, you have been mistaken. The video gaming giant announced this week that it’s new all-encompassing brand will debut with the PS5 later this year.

The idea is to more definitively announce when a game is a ‘Sony’ title. And that basically means that it will have been developed by one of the company’s first-party studios, or a contracted one.

That, if you’re curious, will include the likes of “Naughty Dog, Insomniac, Santa Monica Studio, Media Molecule and Guerrilla Games”, according to industry website GamesIndustry.biz. With names like that associated with the new label, you can imagine the gigantic titles that will be brandishing the new logo.

Blockbuster series’ like Spider-Man, God of War, and Horizon Zero Dawn will all have it on their discs, packaging, and marketing materials. For that matter, they’ll also have a special lead-in graphic presentation before any title screen loads up.

Here’s what that looks like:

Pretty cool, and fairly Marvel-esque honestly. But then again, if you’re going to take a page out of someone’s book, why not the biggest movie franchise of all time? Seems to work.

Once again, don’t look for this just yet, as the new brand will be debuting with the PS5. And the release date for Sony’s latest will most likely be revealed some time around E3… if there was going to be an E3.

Since there isn’t, figure an announcement sometime this summer. I’d bet on sooner than later though, since the PS5 is set to be on store shelves (or on web-stores at least) this holiday season.
