Rebellion’s undead series is back on the march, and heading to virtual reality headsets this May, with Zombie Army VR.
Up close and personal
Kind of a sleeper series, developer Rebellion’s WWII-flavored Zombie Army games have been around for a good while. But while fans have seen the undead-slaying, first-person action cover World War II’s battlefields, they’re about to see it closer than ever. That’s because Zombie Army is going virtual, as Zombie Army VR is about to make an appearance on headsets this May.
Don’t worry though, this is no rehash, as Zombie Army VR will feature a new campaign, complete with player progression and weapon mods, plus an “arcade-style scoring system”, and online 2 player co-op. Rebellion adds that fans will be able to use “both hands to aim down the sights of your rifle and line up that perfect shot at range”, x-ray kill cam included, and even dual-wield pistols and submachine guns.
Ah guns akimbo, always a fave for putting down the recently-undead.
Set before the events of Zombie Army 4, in Zombie Army VR you return to the field as one of the Deadhunters, an elite squad that is hunting down zombie war criminals. You will fight your way through undead hordes near the bombed-out city of Nuremberg and help Hermann Wolff, the Deadhunter’s legendary leader, find his scattered family and fight to free Europe from the zombie apocalypse.
Rebellion press release
Zombie Army VR will arrive this spring, on May 22nd for the Meta Quest 2 and above, PSVR2, and “select PC headsets via Steam”. You can read more about that last option here, on the game’s Steam page.
