Ridley Scott’s sword & sandals sequel has a brand new trailer, showcasing Gladiator II’s story-points and colosseum-based action.
Strength and honor
Is Gladiator II just a little divisive? We think it kind of is, but in a not-so usual way. The original film was a landmark, and certainly stood well on its own, leaving a sequel feeling kind of unnecessary. But even so, if you love that film and Ancient Roman themes in general, it’s kind of hard not to like at least some of what said sequel’s new trailer shows off.
Just released today, that new look is packed with some great looking action, plus a fully realized colosseum that’s frankly downright gorgeous. That includes seeing the venue filled with water (and sharks) for an impressive naval battle, which… just yeah, we dig that. As for the story, it’s shaping up to be legitimately interesting.
The film focuses on original hero Maximus’ son, and a conflict that looks like it might be leading to a gladiatorial slave-revolt against the rulers of Rome. Then there’s also the key figure played by actor Denzel Washington, who portrays a wealthy gladiator owner looking to pull some strings and gain even more power for himself. We’re gonna guess that doesn’t go great.

The epic action begins this winter, when Gladiator II arrives in theaters on November 22nd, 2024.
