Sega’s upcoming revision of 2011’s Sonic Generations is coming up this fall, complete with a shadowy (and playable) new anti-hero.
Back in black
Revealed quite some time ago, Sega’s next Sonic the Hedgehog game got more of a full unveiling at Summer Games Fest last week. Revising and re-presenting the (excellent, in our opinion) 2011 release that was Sonic Generations, Sonic x Shadow Generations will deliver the same experience as the original, plus a whole new adventure starring Sonic’s longtime rival Shadow.
The standalone campaign pits the noir-hog against Black Doom, his personal nemesis. Shadow will have to delve into his own past to beat Doom this time, unlocking new abilities, and also picking up the general theme of the classic Generations.
So while a visually updated Sonic Generations is included in the box, Sega’s newest sounds like it’ll offer a fairly full new campaign. There’s more to it than even that too, as Sonic x Shadow Generations will include a new hub-world that’s been inspired by Sonic Frontiers‘ open-world. In that new “white space”, Shadow can explore and gain new powers, plus uncover “secrets hidden throughout”.
Want more? Look for all-new Chao hidden in each stage, a high-score capable pinball game in Casino Nights Zone, and a museum loaded with “behind-the-scenes art, music, and more!”
Play as Shadow in a brand-new story campaign featuring never-before-seen abilities that prove why he’s known as the Ultimate Life Form! Speed through iconic stages from Shadow’s history, discover hidden secrets in an expansive hub world, and unlock new powers to take on Black Doom and save the world.
SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS also includes a complete remaster of the highly acclaimed SONIC GENERATIONS, a time-traveling adventure featuring a greatest-hits collection of 3D and 2D Sonic stages, now with upgraded visuals and new bonus content.
Sega press release
Sonic x Shadow Generations finally has a release date, and is set to land on consoles and the PC on October 25th, 2004. If you’re picking up a copy, then you have a few choices too, with both physical and digital editions incoming.
