A niche FPS if ever there was one, 1995’s PO’ed has officially landed on modern platforms, thanks to Nightdive Studios.
I’m the cook
PO’ed doesn’t star actor Steven Seagal, as seen in Under Siege, though both did originally see release in the 90s. But while that movie was based on a ship at sea, PO’ed stars a cook who’s up against a hostile force of aliens on a far-off world.
Originally launched on the 3DO, PO’ed would eventually make its way to the PSOne. That was it though, as the first-person shooter never appeared on anything else, until we got word of a remaster just this past April 1st. Understandably, there were more than a few fans who assumed that announcement was an April Fools, but that was decidedly not the case.
Your ship has been overrun by aliens. Your comrades-in-arms have been annihilated, and your soufflé has been ruined! What do you do? Grab your jetpack and rocket launcher, and fry those suckers! PO’ed features 16 of the baddest, maddest, and most unattractive monsters in the galaxy. Rock-throwing ogres, plasma-shooting robots, giant bats … and walking butts!
Nightdive Studios press release
You read that right, “walking butts”. PO’ed has some wild enemy designs, and that includes what looks like energy-crapping rear-ends scampering about on two legs. Aside from all of the original designs and elements, the remaster comes to fans by way of Nightdive’s KEX engine. That means it’s stocked with “updated visuals, antialiasing, an increased framerate, redefined controls, and up to 4K 144 FPS performance”.
Grab your jetpack, PO’ed is out now for Xbox and PlayStation platforms, as well as the PC and the Nintendo Switch.
