The Grey Knights arrive on consoles, with the launch of Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate

A well-received strategy title launched on PC in 2022, Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters is out right now on consoles.

The hunt is on

First launched in 2022 for the PC, Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters is a turn-based strategy title from Frontier Developments and developer Complex Games. The game puts players, for the first time, in the boots of the 40K universe’s vaunted Grey Knights.

The galaxy has a new threat, a plague cast forth from the Chaos god Nurgle, called The Bloom. And of course, it’s up to the Knights to put the vile adherents of Chaos down, a battle which is told via the talents of The Black Library author Aaron Dembski-Bowden. Starring the vocals of actors Andy Serkis and Robyn Addison, it’s looking like a deep adventure, loaded with plenty of grimdark.

Across the battlefields of the grimdark far future, players will deploy their elite strike force to crush the forces of Chaos. Customising each Grey Knight’s weaponry, armour and class-unique abilities, Force Commanders can shape their squad to suit their tactics; unleashing their fury in close-quarters, or dispatching Nurgle’s allies from afar. In hand-to-hand combat and by overwhelming an enemy with repeated attacks, players can deal a devastating blow in precision targeting mode, reducing their foe’s effectiveness or even delivering a brutal cinematic execution. Whilst at range, each Knight’s damage output can be assessed before committing to an order, and with their finely-honed marksmanship, every strike is sure to deliver damning devastation. The battlefield itself also offers additional tactical options for players, by collapsing crumbling cathedral pillars onto foes or toppling flaming braziers to create a wall of flame.

Frontier Developments press release

The console release for Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters sees the title arrive for PlayStation and Xbox platforms, and in a pair of flavors. There’s a base edition of course, but also the (awesomely titled) Purifier Edition. That version includes the base, plus “the legendary Castellan Garran Crowe” character, who can be added to a squad “partway through the campaign”.
