Some view it as a sequel, others as a remake, but one things for sure and it’s that Evil Dead 2 is a horror classic.
Dead by Dawn!
Depending on your level of horror fandom, and of course personal tastes, you probably have a favorite Evil Dead ‘origin’. While the original movie to bear the name was a straight horror affair, Evil Dead 2 went in an almost completely different direction.
Perfecting a horror/comedy formula, director Sam Raimi’s second go with his series basically rebooted it. Even though it’s labeled “Evil Dead 2”, it’s more or less a restart that re-tells the story of the first movie, but with some big time comedic edges. And of course, that hilarity was continued into Army of Darkness and eventually Ash vs Evil Dead.
Come to think of it, maybe you could consider the original Evil Dead a starting point for the newer series of movies, which are as gruesome as all get out. But be that as it may, we’re talking ED2 here, and that absolute icon is about to get a whole lot more ‘collectable’.
Revealed late last week by high-end collectable retailer Sideshow, the company now has the Evil Dead 2 license. There are apparently some big plans in place too, with a “new line of collectibles featuring Ash Williams” on the way.
Terror awaits Ash Williams and his girlfriend Linda when they go for a romantic vacation at a remote cabin in the woods. Ash unsuspectingly plays a tape containing readings from the Book of the Dead, AKA the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis, and unwittingly summons an evil force. Now he must contend with possessions, deadites, and something lurking in the cellar…
Sideshow press release
It seems like multiple versions of Ash are coming up, but what else might Sideshow be prepping? The Deadite version of Henrietta seems like it might be a lock too, though there’s nothing more to reveal right now. Sideshow is mum on the subject, as the line is still being developed and an official announcement is yet to come.
