Dark Horse’s “Silver” FCBD book to feature Star Wars, Avatar

No, not that Avatar. Dark Horse’s Silver Issue that’s on the way for Free Comic Book Day 2023 will offer up Avatar: The Last Airbender and Star Wars.

Big names, free book

As we tumble towards Free Comic Book Day 2023, more and more companies are revealing their freebies for the big day. We recently had a few of these, and now it’s Dark Horse Comics’ turn, with the “Silver Issue”.

Typically FCBD sees publishers putting out their biggest names, to ensnare new readers. That’s just what Dark Horse will be doing, with a Silver tier that includes some massive IP’s in Star Wars: The High Republic and Avatar: The Last Airbender.

  • In Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures, the galaxy-wide conflict between the Jedi Order and the dangerous marauders known as the  Nihil intensifies, and a shuttle full of younglings gets caught in the crossfire. This lost tale set during the fall of Starlight is written by New York Times bestselling author Daniel José Older and is illustrated by Harvey Tolibao, who also provided the cover art for this issue. Colors are by Michelle Madsen and letters provided by Comicraft’s Tyler Smith and Jimmy Betancourt.
  • In Avatar: The Last Airbender, Aang and his friends come across a village decimated by the Fire Nation. One survivor—a young child named Luumi—refuses to open up to anyone except fellow Earth Kingdom native, Toph. This comic is written by Amy Chu, with art by Kelly and Nichole Matthews, and is lettered by Richard Starkings and Comicraft’s Jimmy Betancourt.

Look for the above to be out and ready for you to take home this May the 6th, which is Free Comic Book Day of course. Before you head out to your favorite comics shop though, make sure to check if it’s taking part. Not every store participates in the event you know.

About Jason Micciche

Jason's been knee deep in videogames since he was but a lad. Cutting his teeth on the pixely glory that was the Atari 2600, he's been hack'n'slashing and shoot'em'uping ever since. Mainly an FPS and action guy, Jason enjoys the occasional well crafted title from every genre.
