Tony Stark tests his metal with new Hot Toys figure

Out of the cave, and with the first “Iron Man” armor left in the desert sands, Tony Stark starts work on a new suit. This one is a little more high-tech.

I am Iron Man

The original MCU movie, if you don’t count the multiversal retcons, Iron Man was a watershed moment for Marvel when it came to film. Not only did it bring the title hero back from B/C list status, but it created the entire MCU in one shot.

There’s little of that movie that isn’t instantly recognizable, but maybe one of the coolest parts is the creation of the second Iron Man suit. And that’s the focus of the newest figure to hit the Movie Masterpiece line from Hot Toys.

Officially called “Tony Stark Mech Test”, the figure stars the likeness of actor Robert Downey Jr. It showcases his Stark as he tests the guts of what will be the armor, jet boots and repulsors included.

Here’s a look at the figure, in the latest Sideshow unboxing:

This movie-accurate figure features a tailored shirt, pants, belt, and knee pads, as well as incredibly realistic articulated gauntlets and leg armor with intricate mechanical details and wires which stretch around the figure’s upper body. LED light-up elements add further posing and display options, illuminating Tony’s arc reactor, his palm-mounted repulsors, and his boots. A themed figure display stand and backdrop adds another level of realism, allowing collectors to recreate his workshop setting.

Sideshow Toys press release

As with many of Hot Toys’ figures, this one has a special edition. Aside from the base model, there’s a Deluxe that comes packed with “a prototype Mark II faceplate covered in Tony’s notes and calculations, and an LED light-up arc reactor in a display case”. Proof that Tony Stark has a heart.

Tony Stark Mech Test is set to ship some time before the end of the year, and is still pre-orderable by way of Sideshow Toys. You an check out the basic version here, and the Deluxe here.
