Gamescom 22: God of Rock introduces a fresh spin on an old genre… or two

You know what’s pretty novel? Taking rhythm and fighting games, and fusing them together, which is exactly what the new God of Rock does.

Things go better with ROCK

Yes, it’s all out rock ‘n’ fighting in God of Rock, an upcoming title from Modus Games. Just announced at Gamescom this week, God of Rock blends two genres together to create something wholly unique and startlingly different.

Check it out in action:

A new fighting game has been revealed by Modus Games and Modus Studios that promises to propel the genre forward. God of Rock pushes players to their limit, forcing them to fight in tune to a song decided by the characters and stage selected. Keep up with the jams or you won’t last in this duel amongst the most excellent musicians in the universe.

Modus Games press release

God of Rock will feature a total of 12 fighters, and 40 different tunes to rock out to, all of ’em original. Along with that, the game will serve up both a story and training mode, as well as online versus, and a track editor. With that, players can arrange songs to their liking, pulling and adding notes they’ll have to hit in combat.

There’s no release date as of yet for God of Rock, though you can expect to see it arrive for Xbox and PlayStation platforms as well as the Switch and PC.
