There’s a new Spider-Man villain in town, and it’s a man who’s worn the webs recently. The clone known as Ben Reilly is set to make a heel turn.
Breaking Ben
Every Spidey fan should know the tale of Ben Reilly by now. Maximum Clonage was the start of things for Reilly, who was a clone of Peter Parker created by the villainous Jackal.
From there, Reilly went on a bit of a roller coaster ride. Duped into thinking he was the real Peter, he nevertheless died heroically alongside him in battle. But that wasn’t to be. This is comics remember? The ‘dead’ rarely stay that way.
Reilly returned recently to take up the webs once again, this time taking over for an injured Peter. thing though, didn’t go as smoothly as last time, and the storyline ended in a battle between the two Spider-Men.
Pete came out on top of that one of course, and that’s an ending that Reilly isn’t taking well. Not well at all.
After 19 issues of hard truths and soul searching, Ben is more aware than ever that something within is missing. Consumed with the idea that Peter is the source for all that’s gone wrong in his life, Ben will now swing through the Marvel Universe as CHASM–a fierce and deeply personal new Spidey foe just in time for Spider-Man’s new era, kicking off next month in Zeb Wells and John Romita Jr.’s AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1!
