Pharaoh: A New Era bringing ancient Egypt back to PC

Dotemu is bringing the classic city-builder Pharaoh back with a brand new reimagining. Pharaoh: A New Era is on the way for the PC in 2021.

The glory of Egypt

I’m a pretty big city-builder fan, but I can’t say I remember Pharaoh. Originally released back in 1999 for the PC, the game was published by Sierra and allowed gamers to build their own Pharaonic cities.

Now 20 years later, Dotemu and developer Triskell Interactive are bringing the game back, but this is no simple “remaster”. A remake from the ground up, Pharaoh: A New Era will present the classic in a new 2D way, with 4K HD graphics.

Plan and execute the construction and management of cities as well as settlements in ancient Egypt and oversee every aspect of life within your borders. Juggle resources and strategize the administration of your empire to ensure that citizens are fed, employed, healthy and protected.

In addition to the base game, Pharaoh will also include the original game’s Cleopatra: Queen of the Nile expansion pack. If you’re wondering, that equates up to 100 hours of play, across 53 missions and 6 Egyptian time periods.

Want even more? Yes, there’s a map editor so you can make your own custom missions. And of course, as is common with these kinds of games, you’ll also have access to a ‘free build’ mode. So if you want to take a break from the missions of the campaign, you can let your imagination run free with your own creations.

There’s no release date yet for Pharaoh: A New Era, but you can expect it to hit the PC some time next year.
