Fresh from Star Wars celebration comes the first Star Wars Episode IX trailer. We’ve also learned the title today – The Rise of Skywalker.
The end?
It’s been widely known for some time now that Star Wars Episode IX would be the end of the “Skywalker saga”. As far as we know, the JJ Abrams-helmed film is still supposed to conclude the trilogy of trilogies that’s been centered on the Skywalker clan.
Today’s news though, included a title that called up different imagery. Really, really different imagery. Dubbed Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the movie sounds more like a beginning than an ending.
Maybe it’s a bit of both?
As you can see, it’s officially a “teaser”, though this first look at The Rise of Skywalker is certainly loaded. There’s action aplenty, and looks at characters both returning and brand new – including Lando.
Then of course there’s that laugh and the ominous words from Luke Skywalker himself. Is it possible that Emperor Palpatine is back? That he rises from the grave in this new film? Or might he be a clone of the original, like in the classic Expanded Universe storyline?
There’s lots to think about so go ahead and start your speculating. This year’s going to filled with it, as we close on Episode IX’s impending release. Let’s hope it lives up to the hype.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker lands in theaters on December the 20th.
