E3 2018: Erich’s Top 5 Games of Show

2018’s E3 was one of the most memorable in the show’s history. Well, at least in my memory of the show.

A lot of studios and publishers came out with stellar shows, and really blew my socks off. Nintendo dropped one bombshell, but didn’t have much else. Sony pulled the cover off of an excellent looking remake, and Microsoft showed a tactical Gears game. Which games were my top five? Here we go:

5. Resident Evil 2 Remake

Now, lets be totally transparent here: I think we all knew that a Resident Evil 2 remake was on its way. I definitely expected it to be more in line with 2016’s REmake. What we lose in traditional gameplay, we look to be gaining in a new way to play a classic story.

The fact that this will be using the engine from Resident Evil 7 to produce the terror is an awesome surprise. The trailer, which you can see below, looks awesome. This is on my list of games to keep an eye out for.

4. Doom: Eternal

This is another one that completely blew me away. I rather expected a new Doom eventually, but seeing this pop up here totally caught me off guard.

2016’s Doom was a masterpiece. The gunplay, level design, music and enemy variety were all top notch. If this second installment is similar in any way to the first game, I will be first in line to grab it once it releases. Catch the demo:

3. Fallout 76

Come on.

There was no way a new Fallout was going to be shown and I wasn’t going to include it on my list.

A lot of people already seemed burned by Fallout 76. They are upset at its online nature and the fact that you are unable to play offline. To me, this game represents an interesting prospect. I am happy that the game will offer a new way to experience the Fallout universe, but I am not completely sold yet. I liked what I saw at the show, though. Here’s hoping for some more info before release.

2. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

This better be pretty high on my list, because it is the only game Nintendo really showed.

The real announcement here was that every single character who has ever appeared in a Smash Bros. game will be appearing. Young Link, Pichu, Mewtwo, Solid Snake and more are coming back. The squad is being joined by the Inklings from Splatoon and Ridley from Metroid. I have nothing else to say. Take a look:

1. Octopath Traveler

Although this game is so close to release, it gets a high point on my list because of how different and new it is.

The show also announced that a new demo would be released on the Thursday following Nintendo’s presentation. The demo allows players to play for three hours as any character they want, and all progress will carry to the full game.
