Marvel announces a “fresh start” for its entire comic line this May

Is this “fresh start” a reboot? Probably not, but it’s as close as it looks like we’re going to get for Marvel’s universe. And if you’re a longtime fan, then it’s more than likely going to be music to your ears… or eyes.

The return

Marvel has run through several revamps over the last few years. These have all been soft-reboots of sorts, that sent their stable of heroes and villains in occasionally very different directions. Up until last year, almost all of these revamps had gotten the company further and further away from their most iconic form.

And by that, I mean almost all of the major heroes had been replaced or changed somehow, and huge parts of the Marvel U had been almost excised. Of course, I’m referring to the X-Men and Fantastic Four there. But this is all in the past.

As of last year, The X-Men had returned, and Marvel started Generations and Legacy, which both started bringing the classics back to the fore. And now? Now we’ve got A Fresh Start.

So what is this exactly? Well just take a look at that preview splash. There’s Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, Thing, Black Panther, Spider-Man and more. Sure Wolverine is in civilian clothes, but almost all of these heroes look fantastic.

And I’m getting the feeling that fans of the classic Marvel U should be getting very excited.
