Resident Evil VII to get “gold” edition and free DLC

Did you skip out on Capcom’s reinvention of the horror classic Resident Evil? Then your time has come. REVII is going Gold, and getting some free content too.

If you’ve played Resident Evil VII, then I don’t have to tell you what a revelation (no pun intended) it was for the series. A survival horror classic, RE was getting more then a little long in the tooth. Fans weren’t overly thrilled with the last two numbered installments, citing them for steering the series towards more action than scares. Well, as of REVII, you can amend that.

Spook central

Looks like something has survived. But then again, you kind of knew it was gonna, right? Of course you did, this is Resident Evil after all. And it REALLY is Resident Evil. REVII looked to be very bit the spook-fest that the original three games were (and Code: Veronica, loved that game).

That little trailer above is from the new Gold edition of the game, which includes everything that’s hit since launch. That means you get Banned Footage Vol. 1 and Banned Footage Vol. 2, as well as the forthcoming End of Zoe. All the pack are, of course, available separately too, if you own the original game.

Here’s what you can expect out of End of Zoe AND Not a Hero

End of Zoe is a shocking installment of the Resident Evil 7 biohazard saga where players discover what Zoe’s fate will be. Players will face off against new enemies and explore new swamp-filled areas. End of Zoe will be included in the Gold Edition or available as an update if you are a Season Pass owner. Owners of the original release will also be available to purchase the content as a separate download for $14.99/€14.99/£11.99.

Also still on the way is the Not a Hero DLC. The long-awaited pack includes original RE hero Chris Redfield, in an unusual role. Apparently now with something called “New Umbrella”, Redfield has taken an interesting turn in Resident Evil lore. Umbrella was the series’ bad-guy group for a good long time, and Redfield was first a cop before becoming an agent of an anti-terrorist team. It remains to be seen what New Umbrella is.

The free Not a Hero DLC sees the return of Resident Evil fan favorite and veteran BSAA soldier Chris Redfield. Taking place after the horrific events that befell Ethan Winters in Resident Evil 7 biohazard,Not a Hero brings a brand new experience playing as Chris to face new threats not met in the main game. As a member of New Umbrella, Chris and team quickly set up a strategy to counter this latest threat. Will Chris once again solve the mystery of this latest outbreak and make it out of the plantation’s dungeons alive?

No release date for Not a Hero yet, but we do have a few details.

The pack will be free of charge, and will run on the PSVR, just like all other parts of the game. It also seems more action-oriented than we’ve seen REVII be, at least from the screens above. Don’t get too crazy about that though, since a story starring Chris Redfield really couldn’t go too many other ways.
