Astonishing X-Men #1 hits in July, with series 2 of the X-Men “trading card” covers

X-Mania continues at Marvel Comics this July, with the relaunch of Astonishing X-Men. But that’s not all, as there will a second series of X-themed variant covers on stands as well.

To me, my X-Men… covers

So these are pretty awesome. If you’re a Marvel fan, then you already know the deal with ’em. Just in case you’re unfamiliar though, this “trading card’ series of variant covers is just the latest such initiative from the publisher.

Basically, a standard issue of the included books will be hitting the stands, but along side them will be another with a different cover in place. Even if the book has little to nothing to do with X-Men, it’ll be adorned with one of these bad boys. And man, are they awesome. If you love 90s X-Men and Jim Lee in particular, you’re probably going to want some -if not all- of what’s here.

Remastered and recolored from the original trading cards, relive this iconic era of the Children of the Atom with a series of eye-popping covers celebrating your favorite characters. Originally penciled by legendary X-Men artist Jim Lee with inker Scott Williams, colorists such as Jesus Aburtov, Israel Silva & Chris Sotomayor apply modern coloring techniques to these classic masterpieces!

As I mentioned, these will be hitting along with issue #1 of Astonishing, which has been dormant.  So look for that too next month. Getting back to the covers though, here’s what’ll be gracing books and which comics you’ll have to reserve to get all of them.
