Dark Horse to support Local Comic Shop Day with Serenity variant

Hitting your LCS for Local Comic Shop Day? Then you’ll want to be not he lookout for this special variant from Dark Horse Comics.

The best variant cover in the ‘verse?

Yes, Dark Horse Comics’ latest special edition will feature that fan favorite sci-fi saga Serenity. Dark Horse publishes the adventures of Captain Mal and his crew on a regular basis with their Serenity comic series’, and they do tap into that universe on occasion for their exclusives. Still, it’s always cool to see one of Joss Whedon’s best-loved properties back on the main stage.

The issue itself is the start of the No Power in the ‘Verse arc, which sounds pretty awesome and we profiled a while back. Here’s the skinny:

No Power in the ’Verse finds Malcolm Reynolds and his Serenity crew struggling through some difficult times. Tensions are at an all-time high when the crew receives a call to help find a missing friend. The crew must come together to discover the answers to her mysterious disappearance. Will they find her in time?

No Power in the ’Verse is preceded by the Serenity comics Those Left BehindBetter DaysThe Shepherd’s Tale, and Leaves on the Wind.

So what makes this version different than the standard one? Why that’d be artist Francesco Francavilla of course. One of my personal favorite artists, Francavilla has contributed covers to a whole bunch of big name books over the last few years, and he always does an awesome job. You’ve probably seen his art before on the Afterlife with Archie series. Great stuff.

And the only way you can get one of these bad boys is to nab one on Local Comic Shop Day, which’ll be on November 19th by the way. An annual event, LCSD is put on by ComicsPRO and included some 400 comic shops across the country in 2015. It’s an even for and by the local stores, which is a very cool thing. So, you know, maybe make a point to head to your local store on the 19th and show a little support.
