Oh-so pretty and fresh from Gamescom, Seasons after Fall is looking like a platformer to watch.
An enigmatic spirit, and four seasons to play with
With an “enigmatic spirit” guiding you on your way, Swing Swing Submarine’s Seasons after Fall puts you in the paws of a small fox. The spirit is on a quest to meet the Guardians of the Seasons and retrieve the “fragments of the Seasons”. The Guardians are massive animals who embody the four seasons themselves. Once brought together, the fragments can be used to enact the Ritual of the Seasons, which the spirit needs to realize her dreams (and the fox’), whatever they might be.
Number one, that’s a lot of ‘seasons’. Number two, that’s one mysterious spirit. Oh and number three – this game looks gorgeous. Though the animation in the trailer is little on the choppy side (I blame the video itself personally), I love that art stye. I also love the season-changing mechanics that you’ll have to employ to proceed in the game’s world.
Seasonal innovation
More than just a series of visual changes, Seasons after Fall actually has you playing around with the time of year as a core gameplay feature. Here’s an example of what you’ll be doing to solve the game’s puzzles: “Use the rain from Spring to raise water levels, then the cold of Winter to freeze it up, granting you safe passage.” Pretty neat.
Also cool is that, pairing with the game’s ‘painted’ visuals will be a string quartet, providing the music. That should make for something that not only looks pretty, but sounds it too.
We’ll have more of you about Seasons after Fall as it heads to the PC next month.
