Riptide GP: Renegade hits the waves and races onto iOS and Android

It’s been a while since we’ve seen a watercraft racer, but Riptide GP: Renegade is looking good.

Renegade wave-racing

Looking pretty great and now available on mobiles, Riptide GP comes from the talented crew at Vector Unit. You can forget about simple wave runners here though, cause this game has you piloting “rocket-powered watercraft” through it’s courses. With that in mind, you might imagine this is a futuristic-themed game, and you’d be right. I guess the robots might have given that away too though.

You’ll have to pull off crazy stunts and outrun wave-bound cops, all while boosting your way past the opposition if you want to slosh into the winner’s circle. As far as modes go, career is an obvious inclusion, but Riptide GP also offers “8 player online races, ghost racing leaderboard challenges, and 4 player split screen local multiplayer (requires separate game controllers)”. That last one is pretty impressive for a mobile game.

Facilitating split-screen gaming, MFi controllers are supported. Not that you have to use a controller, if your device supports touch or tilt. You can also get Riptide-ing with motion-control by tilting, or through the tried and true mobile interface of touch-control. Game Center support is built in as well, if you’re gaming on an iOS device.

And if you are, then you should also know that Riptide GP: Renegade is available right now via the App Store. On Android? Then you can get the game through Google Play. Both versions cost $2.99 USD. As for other platforms, you can also play this one on the PS4, PC (via Steam), Apple TV, and the Nvidia Shield Android TV.
