Last second delay for the PC version of No Man’s Sky
No Man’s Sky is a very highly anticipated space simulation game for the PS4 and PC. It was due to be released on the 9th of this month, when the fans were thrown into confusion. The release date on the official website changed to the 12th, while the Steam page still said the 9th. Needless to say, the contradicting dates baffled fans.
Eventually, it was clarified by developer Sean Murray that the PC release had been pushed back three days. Murray wished to optimize the game for 21:9 monitors, but was running into difficulties, doing so. He did not actually have access to a 21:9 monitor, so he had to simulate the feeling of one. According to Murray, he stuck cardboard onto the side of his monitor to do so.
A delay this close to a game’s release date is very odd and does not usually happen. On the other hand, the delay was particularly small compared to most. Murray stated that the game was delayed because they wanted the game to be as good as they could get it. Within a week, it’ll be up for the fans to decide if they succeeded.
