The next entry in official Star Wars canon arrives this week in the form of mobile game Star Wars: Uprising.
Strange as it might seem, Star Wars: Uprising is set to be only the second story to take place after Return of the Jedi. In the wake of the extensive Dark Horse Star Wars ‘expanded universe’ becoming non-canon, there was only the just released novel Star Wars: Aftermath extending the fiction out beyond the last film of the original trilogy.
With Uprising though, all that changes. The mobile title is an MMORPG from Kabam and is set in the days following the destruction of the second Death Star. It’s also up against a familiar backdrop with the Anoat Sector of space; and if that doesn’t sound familiar, then you should know that that’s the home of Lando’s Cloud City and the frozen planet of Hoth. So there’s some fan-favorite stuff happening there.
A brand new narrative is featured in Uprising, as you might imagine, and a new villain and heroes are showcased as well. So this is all virgin territory for the Star Wars mythos, and it’s the only way to get a hint as to the state of the galaxy post-Jedi till The Force Awakens is released into theaters this December.
Free to play, you can download Star Wars: Uprising on iOS and Android platforms as of September 10th.
