It’s been a long time coming, but This War of Mine is almost here.
Is ‘wow’ applicable here? I’m going to go out on a limb and say that it is. As someone who wasn’t really all that informed about This War of Mine, this trailer hit me like a ton of bricks. Flatly, it looks pretty darned amazing.
The art style aside though, the game offers something very different than your usual runs and gun action that you might expect from a game about war. If you’re used to playing as a larger than life marine, or a teched-out soldier who wields high-powered ordinance, then you’re in for a surprise. Not only does your character in This War of Mine have no military training, but he’s apparently not even all that good with a gun. Your job isn’t even to ‘stop’ the bad guys from invading your homeland- it’s simply to survive.
You’ll struggle with lack of food and supplies, try and avoid enemy soldiers on the streets of a country in open war, and generally just try and stay alive in a place where civilians would probably be best advised to stay out of. It’s refreshing and looks like it just might be one of the biggest sleeper indie hits of 2014. Find out when 11bit Studios’ This War of Mine lands on PC’s via Steam and Games Republic on November 14th.
