According to IGN, Bethesda has canceled development of Prey 2. Bethesda vice president Pete Hines confirms the cancellation citing that the quality was not meeting company standards.
In March 2011, Bethesda announced that Human Head Studios would develop Prey 2 with a probable release in 2012. Despite major backing and time there appeared to be some problems and Bethesda affirmed with IGN in 2013 that quality issues were to blame for the release delay. In the article, Bethesda also denies the rumors that Arkane Studios is taking over the project from Human Head. However, this was quickly followed by Kotaku’s release of emails from Arkane Studios in Austin that points to the studio taking over production of the game. Moreover, they were talking about a reboot rather than using the work already accomplished by Human Head Studios.
The only consistency in this story appears to be Prey 2’s quality or lack there of. This whole saga begs for answers in how it was handled and Bethesda is staying rather quiet in response. Hines says Bethesda thinks [Prey] is “still a cool universe worth exploring,” but I guess they don’t want to explore it right now.
