Head back to the year 4001 for Valiant Comics’ Rai #5 this December

The future is looking bright for Valiant Comics future-warrior Rai in issue 5 of the series, on tap for this coming December.

In the aftermath of the devastating insurrection against Father’s empire, Rai must pick up the pieces as he grapples with the startling truth about Japan and his true purpose. Will Rai remain a champion of the people…or will he succumb to the same fate as the men who carried the mantle before him? And why is everyone looking at him so strangely? Go back to the future as Kindt and Crain unleash a brand new chapter for Valiant’s smash-hit ongoing series on December 3rd!

First- good god this book has amazing art. Coming off of the pencil of Clayton Crain, Rai’s visuals are just this side of stunning. Seriously, it’s like a special edition every month. Just awesome.

Writer Matt Kindt’s storyline isn’t too shabby either, and this issue is a pretty big one for Rai as he starts to realize that all is not well in the Japan of 4001. Even worse for him, he must keep his own feelings and thoughts to himself lest Father finds out, in which case there’d be… trouble.

There are a few special editions on the way for this issue as well. A special QR code version will have a fully-animated Rai on the cover, complete with speech, which will be viewable via any QR smartphone App. Also in the works is a ‘plus’ edition (pictured to the right),  which will have a massive 15 extra pages of content. Valiant promises that this extra bundle of stories and artwork will never ever be packaged into a graphic novel collection, so if you want the goods, you better grab yourself a copy of the Plus edition.

For now though, check out the preview imagery below and set your calendars, as all these various issuances of Rai #5 slice into retail on December 3rd.
