The big screen adaptation of the TV classic starring Denzel Washington gets a first look.
As a big fan of the older show from the ’80s (which we actually reviewed here in DVD box set form), I was more than a little unsure about what was going to happen when the show was ‘updated’ to modern sensibilities for a film. I have to say though, that after watching that first trailer for the movie, I’m pleasantly surprised.
Denzel Washington is a proven action star and seemed to fit right into the world of The Equalizer as McCall, a role originally played so well by Edward Woodward. Aside form the star, the world that’s been created just sort of seems ‘right’ with a gritty urban vibe to it. McCall never really got into too many big time plots (at least as far as I can remember) on the show, but I didn’t think they’d build a movie around a missing person or local murder like the episodic version of the story so often featured. For now though, with plenty of action and the steely glare of Washington in tow, so far so good.
The Equalizer debuts in cinemas this Fall from Sony Pictures.
