E3 2014: Nintendo’s Amiibo detailed in new trailer

Toys to life isn’t exactly new, but what Nintendo is planning on doing with the game peripherals kind of is.

So, in a nutshell, Nintendo’s figures will not just be compatible with one series of games like Skylanders and Disney Infinity toys are, but will be usable across multiple titles on both the Wii U, and eventually the 3DS as well. It’s a pretty exciting proposition to have all these toys being usable in a bunch of ways, and it definitely expands the life of the figures in a major way.

According to the video, while we’ll start things off in Amiibo land with Super Smash Bros., we’ll also be getting onto Mario Kart 8 as well as Mario Party 10, Captain Toad and more. Each game will utilize the figures in a different way too, which is intriguing. I’ve got to believe that this is all headed into a game very much like Skylanders too, a platformed where your Amiibo actually come to life and are directly playable in the game.

At the very least, it should prove interesting to see where all this is headed. Amiibo should be on store shelves just in time for the Super Smash Bros. launch this Fall for the Wii U.
