You won’t find any dungeons in Void Expanse from AtomicTorch Studios, but you will find space stations, starships aplenty, and the vastness of the final frontier.
As far as action/RPG’s go, this one’s pretty unique. Honestly, when’s the last time you ever heard of an action/RPG that didn’t have a dark dungeon in it where you had to fight waves of undead or orcs? More than likely, the answer is never. Off the top of my head, I can only think of Space Siege and that was starring a character that you controlled, not a starship.
That’s not the extent of cool stuff to be had here either as your ship will be fully customizable in Void Expanse and you can also play co-op or competitively with other gamers in multiplayer worlds. Levels are procedurally generated in Void Expanse too, so you’ll never play the same star system twice… well, probably not anyway. You will find some things the same as a game of Diablo though, like NPC interactions and trading with other characters. You can even mine asteroids and just “explore the unknown” if you want. Kind of neat if you grew up a Star Wars or Star Trek fan.
Void Expanse is available in an Alpha state right now through the developer’s website for the PC. A Mac and a Linux version are also on the way, as is the full retail release, but there’s no firm date yet for those.
