Underground Pixel is full steam ahead for 2014!

Behold, the newest offering from indie darling Underground Pixel: Mallow Mania! You play as a marshmallow who enjoys spending it’s time frolicking on clouds. But when the clouds get a little sleepy, they’re not nearly as safe to frolic on. It’s a simple premise, but one that shines with such a simple mechanic: don’t fall.

LOOK HOW ADORABLE THIS MALLOW IS!

If there’s anything that UP does right (and they do a lot), it’s that they’ve proven time and time again that they know the classic arcade experience and how to present it with interesting new premises or solid mechanics. Who knew playing as a marshmallow could be so fun (or so cute)? The music, while generally panned by the tween cretins of newgrounds, is actually quite fun. It suits the playful visual style, and couples well with the superb animations. Like other UP games, the twitch experience is there in full swing, requiring precise timing, lightning reflexes, and general quick thinking. It’s a lot of fun, and something you really should give a couple of tries to.

And let’s not forget the myriad of free flash games they’ve put together, including Holly Jolly Pyromaniac (one of my favourites) and Colossal Clean-Up.  Even the jam games for LudumDare that UP puts out are pretty cool, and definitely worth a play or twelve.

And there’s also the upcoming release of Tropical Turmoil in the Indiestatik Kickstarter, and Invader Eliminator is shaping up for a 2014 release; I’m hoping IE comes out sooner, as it looks really fun and I can’t wait to play it.

If you want to check out the work of Underground Pixel, you can head over to their website www.undergroundpixel.com, follow them on twitter or facebook, and fan them on newgrounds.
