Avengers #25 (Comics) Preview

The Marvel Universe  just keeps on getting weirder as the Avengers meet up with… themselves?

They have come from a different place and time – and today, Marvel is pleased to present your first look at AVENGERS #25, from blockbuster creators Jonathan Hickman and Salvador Larroca. United against threats no single super hero could withstand – the Avengers have faced dangers unlike any other. But what happens when the danger is themselves? From the splintered fringes of time comes….the Avengers?! And the heroes of the past must face the horrors their present has wrought.

“After wrapping up INFINITY, Jonathan and I were pretty tired. Too tired to come up with anything new,” says Executive Editor Tom Brevoort. “That whole All-New X-Men thing with the X-Men from the past has been working out pretty well for Brian Bendis, so we thought we’d jump on the bandwagon. Hence, the All-New Avengers! Sounds like the sort of thing that we’d do, doesn’t it?”

Past and present collide this January in AVENGERS #25. But when the dust settles, will there be a present worth fighting for? Not everyone makes it out alive!

It’s getting to the point that I just can’t keep up with this stuff anymore. There’s so much extreme weirdness in Marvel’s comics right now and time travel is becoming more than the norm- it’s getting pedestrian. I can absolutely see that all this might be leading up to something big though. I saw a few articles recently on comic-centric sites about the theory that Marvel is heading towards a ‘Zero Hour’ type of event where they’ll be doing a lot more than a soft-reboot like Marvel NOW! was.

Personally, I’d love to see that as there’ve been so many bizarre twists and turns as of late in Marvel that longtime fans (like me) are almost getting shut out. Things have been getting so completely different from the iconic characters and their world that the standard Marvel Universe almost has started to look like an alternate reality.

And is Hank Pym dead?! I mean, that’s what it looks like from the preview anyway. And that S.H.I.E.L.D. trooper look like a Tie-Fighter pilot, which is just plain creepy. See what happens when Avengers meet Avengers as Avengers #25 hits the stands on January 22nd from the team of Jonathan Hickman and Salvador Larroca.
