Marvel announces a new class of X-Men in Wolverine and the X-Men #1

An all-new, all-different Wolverine and The X-Men is on the way, and it’s either going to bring a brand new team of X-Men or a big new threat to the Marvel Universe with it.

If you thought the inaugural year of the Jean Grey School was crazy – you ain’t seen nothing yet! The X-Men of tomorrow have faced dangers unlike any other, and it’s not going to get easier any time soon. Summer School is in session, with new dangers, new faces…and is that Quentin Quire as a teacher?!?!?

“As we’ve seen this first year or so of the Jean Grey School has been a hard road. As a result we’ll begin with a lot of the teachers and students sitting on the edge of their seats just waiting for the bell to ring,” explained Latour. “Those that are left are the teachers and the kids who basically have nowhere to go. Headmasters Wolverine and Storm are spending the summer with Quire and Evan and Idie. The kids who are among the most potentially powerful and dangerous mutants alive.”

“In them we could be witnessing the growth of the next GREAT team of X-Men, or the creation of the biggest threats the Marvel U will ever see.”

Kind of interesting to see the character choices that writer Jason Latour has made for the relaunch of the book in wave 2 of Marvel’s Marvel NOW! branding. Wolvie and Storm are natural fits, Fantomex is a little out there (but could be a very interesting choice)- and then there’s the kids.

I’m not the biggest fan of Quire at all, but I have to admit that he presents an interesting challenge for the X-Men and Wolverine and the Jean Grey School in particular. He’s a loose cannon, and grating in spades, but he might be one of the most powerful mutants in the Marvel U and a being close to the power level of a Jean Grey herself running around unchecked could be a very big deal indeed. With all that going on, Wolverine and The X-Men should be a fun one to watch.

Grab the first issue when it debuts in March of 2014 from Marvel Comics, Latour and artist Mahmud Arar.
