Along with a 12 minute look at some gameplay from the title, Konami revealed that a mission exclusive to the Sony editions of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes will feature a low-res, polygon-laden Snake back for one more mission.
PlayStation® system users will also be thrilled to discover Mr. Kojima announced METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES will feature an exclusive mission for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and PlayStation®4 system. The “throwback” mission titled “Déjà Vu,” recreates a mission originally featured in the original METAL GEAR SOLID game AND lets users play as Solid Snake (in all of his low-polygon, pixelated glory) in the high definition Ground Zeroes universe.
Now, if seeing Snake in his sneaking suit from the original MGS doesn’t bring back some good memories, I don’t know what will. You know, he actually didn’t look all that bad against the high-res backgrounds of MGSV… maybe that’s just me. Anyway, the publisher also shared a super-long cut featuring a 12 minute look at the game in action, minus classic Snake, and it’s looking just as good as you might have expected.
Konami gave us a good look at Ground Zeroes in the form os a ‘side ops’ mission where Big Boss has to showcase his stealth skills in order to retrieve some valuable intel from a double agent. Sounds spy-rific!
METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES is the prologue and the first encounter in the METAL GEAR SOLID V Experience. The prologue primes gamers for the full story and experience in the complete fifth installment of the METAL GEAR SOLID franchise, METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN, which will be released at a future date. Anchored in a deep story mode involving tyranny, espionage and deception, METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES also expands into numerous “Side Ops” missions that branch off the story campaign and allows players to tackle new objectives independent of the main story.
Bottom line- Metal Gear Solid titles are always huge. The only difference this time around is that Kojima Productions and Konami are releasing a pair of them in the same year with Ground Zeroes serving as a prequel to The Phantom Pain. Both games will share the Metal Gear Solid V title though, so both are probably required playing if you’re a mega-fan of the franchise.
Look for Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes to launch on the PS3/4 and Xbox 360/One this coming Spring. There’s no date as if yet for The Phantom Pain, but we’ll keep you posted.
