LucasArts Confirms Staff Layoffs, Star Wars 1313 & First Assault Cancelled

LucasArts are changing their focus.

UPDATE: Kotaku are reporting that Star Wars 1313 and Star Wars: First Assault have been cancelled as well.

LucasArts have confirmed that they will be laying off staff as they shift their focus to licensed games instead of internal development.  In a statement made to IGN, a spokesperson said: –

“After evaluating our position in the games market, we’ve decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company’s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games. As a result of this change, we’ve had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles.”

Hopefully those who are affected by these layoffs will land on their feet soon.
