The controller/tablet for Nintendo’s upcoming Wii U console scores high marks with Gearbox Software head honcho Randy Pitchford.
Although the Wii U version of the game hasn’t really been talked about all that much as of yet, it’s apparently the version of Sega and Gearbox’ Aliens: Colonial Marines that Pitchford is most excited about. He proclaimed that the Wii U gamepad (which has a tablet built right in) is “perfect for Aliens” and “the best controller Nintendo has ever made for making an FPS.”
It’s pretty obvious why he’d think that about the Wii-pad’s design as it relates to the Aliens property, as the screen functions as the iconic ‘motion tracker’ as seen in the movie and also can display the in game map. That’s a pretty cool feature that, according to Pitchford, won’t feature into the Xbox or PS3 version of Aliens: Colonial Marines even with the promise of Smartglass and PS Vita integration.
A true sequel (read: in canon) to the Aliens film, Colonial Marines will be on store shelves this February for the Xbox 360 and PS3. As to the Wii U version and it’s motion tracking gamepad, that’s only marked for launch some time within the console’s launch window- which is anywhere from this November to March 2013 at this point.
