Pigs playing video games better than a 3 year old child? Believe it

According to a study that involved chimps, young children, and pigs, the porcine critters played better than any of the above when it came to games.

The info came to us from vegan advocacy group Farm Sanctuary and tells how pigs actually performed better than both chimps and, startlingly, young human children at games that involved joysticks. While the creatures can’t play games with a pad (remember, no opposable thumbs), they certainly impressed with what they could do.

Of course, the aim of the 30 second paper-craft spot (which is pretty awesome in and of itself) was to show pigs as a multidimensional being and not,, as traditionally viewed, as a food source. It definitely does give you pause for thought, no matter which side of the fence you fall on.

Clearly, pigs are intelligent and thinking creatures if they can negotiate a game after all, and are perhaps a heck of a lot more than we give them credit for. I’ve been seeing a lot of this kind of stuff with birds, dogs, and even goats lately with animals (other than humans) making some interesting moves and choices when tests like this one are administered. Could it be that maybe humanity should take a closer look at what it means to be truly evolved? Sure seems that way.

You can learn more about this and other initiatives at the Farm Sanctuary’s website here. Definitely worth a look.
