From 3D Realms and developer Anshar Studios, the upcoming Painkiller reboot’s arsenal is prepped to chew through some demons.
Blast ’em
The upcoming Painkiller reboot is definitely different from what you might have played in the past. After all, the new entry in the franchise has a co-op tilt (though is still playable solo), and sends players to put the screws to demonic hordes across a set of biomes. There are also the tarot cards, which can upgrade abilities and arsenal alike, and a quartet of characters to play as.
It does sound pretty different at first blush, but once you see it in action, Painkiller starts to feel a lot more like, well, Painkiller. Helping that familiarity out too, will be the weapons you’ll wield. It seems not everything is new and different in this new game, as fresh hardware will be joined by a few old faves.
In all, Painkiller’s arsenal includes:
- Electrodriver: Barrage enemies with rapid-firing shurikens that bounce off hard surfaces
- Stakegun: Hurls high-damage stakes that can impale foes from long range
- SMG: Unleashes loads of ammo in short, rapid-fire bursts
- Handcannon: Decimate enemies from long range with deadly precision
- Shotgun: Spits destructive pellets at short range that can damage and stagger multiple foes
- Rocket Launcher: Discharges a rocket projectile with a devastating blast radius that can stagger even heavy enemies
- The titular Painkiller, a versatile weapon with a brutal melee attack that hooks onto enemies and shreds them to pieces while refilling your ammo
3D Realms press release
The seven main weapons are just the start of the fun though, as Painkiller‘s guns will deal out both primary and alt-fire modes. Even that’s not all though, as fans can also expect to see “elemental effects such as fire, ice, electro and kinetic”, and all those blasters are upgradable too. So yeah, blasting the hordes of hell should be a right blast.
Painkiller is on its way to the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam), and should be landing this fall. We’ll have more for you as it’s released.
