The open-world survival adventure that is Funcom’s Dune: Awakening is finally bringing Arrakis to PC players this May.
Muad’Dib!
It’s been a little while, but one of the best-looking and reportedly biggest Dune games ever is about to launch for the PC. That’d be Dune: Awakening from Funcom of course, which will be bringing a game that’s inspired by both “Frank Herbert’s legendary sci-fi novel and Legendary Entertainment’s award-winning films”, according to the developer.
That’s not to say that it actually takes place in either of those universes, as Dune: Awakening seems to be its own thing. Still, it’s world should be relatively in line with what fans might expect, and certainly looks like a title that those seeking to dive into Arrakis’ sands might want to check out.
Dune: Awakening is the most ambitious survival game ever made, set on the most dangerous planet in the universe, Arrakis. Whether a Dune fan or not, the vast world will immerse you in an epic experience that draws from both Frank Herbert’s sci-fi masterpiece and Denis Villeneuve’s blockbuster movies. Embark on a journey from scavenging and survival to controlling the planet itself.

Time to get creative
As mentioned, Dune: Awakening is launching soon, and will be hitting the PC on May 20th, 2025. You don’t have to wait quite that long to start getting into its world though, as there’s a free offering up on Steam right now to get you rolling.
The Character Creation & Benchmark Mode is up now, and any character you make using the suite will be importable into Dune: Awakening when it hits. There’s even a nice little incentive for hitting that download, as Funcom will be sending those who download the mode a code, which they can use with the full retail edition of the game. That’ll get ’em a “Frameblade knife skin”.
Just to let you know too, while we’re talking about the final version of Dune: Awakening, that pre-orders haven’t opened up quite yet. When they do, fans will have another bonus to grab, with the Terrarium of Muad’Dib. Fans will be able to place that set-piece in their base, and watch a cute little desert mouse as he goes about his day.
