From Saber Interactive and 3D Realms, upcoming RTS Tempest Rising has a brand new demo, with a pair of playable missions.
Storm’s coming… oh it’s here
In the works for a while, publisher 3D Realms’ and Saber Interactive’s real-time strategy game Tempest Rising is looking great. A classically styled RTS, Tempest Rising comes complete with base-building and fast, hard-hitting action. Where things deviate from the norm is in the way of the game’s two competing factions, which are asymmetrical. Each has “unique harvesting models, resource systems, and distinct rosters of units for drastically different playstyles”.
Here are some of the latest screens, taken from the new demo, which we’ll fill you in on in a second:
Tempest Rising seamlessly merges the classic action of real-time strategy (RTS) games from the ‘90s and 2000s with modern production and performance standards. Encounter a battle-scarred 1997 in an alternate timeline where the Cuban Missile Crisis went nuclear. In the fallout from the war, a strange red electrical vine known as Tempest started spreading across the planet and changed the course of history.
Tempest Rising gives players full command as they build up their bases, lead armies into battle, and execute bold strategies to emerge victorious. Experience the story of two different factions across two campaigns with deep and rewarding gameplay that keeps the focus on strategy and skill, with built-in customization options that let players approach the game their own way in both single-player and multiplayer.
3D Realms press release
Looking good, no? Well if you agree, and you just can’t wait to get down and dirty in Tempest Rising‘s alternate 1997, then you’re gonna want to grab the demo. That’s available exclusively on Steam, during the company’s TactiCon event, taking place now through July 22nd.
No, that’s not a ton of time. So if you do want to play, then you’ll want to grab that demo and fire it up sooner than later. When you do, you’ll be able to play through the second missions for the Global Defense Forces (The Hornets’ Nest) and Tempest Dynasty (The Informant). The former will take players to Iceland to battle against an enemy operation, while the latter will be all-out war while playing as the game’s villains.
This may be the last chance to play Tempest Rising for while too, since the game does not currently have a release date.
