A pair of new books from Marvel Comics will resurrect the old foil variant from the 90s, for the covers of Immortal Thor and Star Wars: Dark Droids.
Foiled again
If you were a comics fan back in the 90s, then you likely knew well the stunning array of cover gimmicks. They seemed to run weekly, on new “#1” issues and those with major story-points.
If you visited a comics shop back then, you would have seen books with holograms, die-cut patterns, glow-in-the-dark elements, and yes, foil. Some of those have returned over the years since, and now there’s another.
Marvel Comics will be bringing a pair of foil variants to market, for both Immortal Thor #1 and Star Wars: Dark Droids #1 this August.
Witness the start of a bold mythos-reshaping run of THOR that can only come from the mind of visionary writer Al Ewing! The highly-anticipatedIMMORTAL THOR #1 will have a thunderous new FOIL VARIANT COVER by new series artist and Marvel Stormbreaker Martín Cóccolo.
STAR WARS: DARK DROIDS #1, the beginning of a Star Wars epic unlike you’ve ever seen before, will have a FOIL VARIANT COVER by Giuseppe Camuncoli that spotlights R2-D2. Will the iconic astromech droid be safe from the droid-corrupting Scourge that’s been unleashed on the galaxy far, far away?
Marvel Comics press release
Watch for Immortal Thor #1 in comics shops on August 23rd, with Star Wars: Dark Droids #1 hitting a bit ahead of that, on August 2nd.
