Finally, the neo-classic film adaptation of Tolkien’s iconic works are coming to 4K. Both The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings trilogies are on the way.
One disc to rule them all
If you love high fantasy, then there’s still little that matches the sheer awesomeness of director Peter Jackson’s middle-Earth saga. Sure, some people like to say that The Hobbit films wore out their welcome in parts, but the sum of the whole is undeniably a phenomenal accomplishment.
And now the entire 6 film saga is coming to 4K UHD Blu Ray video, complete with HDR. Both trilogies will feature the theatrical… and extended cuts of the movies, and if you’re familiar with the latter, then you know that’s a whole heaping helping of Hobbits.
Those discs will arrive at retail on December 1st. But there’s much more. A 4K UHD “Middle-earth” Ultimate Collectors’ Edition is coming up as well. This set will stock both The Hobbit Blu Rays and the remastered Lord of the Rings Blu’s, but with the addition of fresh bonus content. Expect to see that arrive this coming summer.
Want more? Finally, there will be special Lord of the Rings set that will come to retail next holiday, in 2021. That one will be to celebrate the… 20th anniversary of The Fellowship of the Ring’s theatrical release. I can’t believe it’s going to be two decades.
