Switch gamers, it’s time to pour yourself a tall, cool glass of milk and buckle up. Cuphead is coming to Nintendo’s platform, and in short order.
A cup of side-scrolling action
As far as side-scrollers go, I think it’s safe to say you’d be hard pressed to find something more visually stunning than Cuphead. Studio MDHR’s masterpiece released a few years back on the Xbox One and PC, and remains a spectacle even today.
It also remained an exclusive to those platforms. Recently though, there were some rumors that with Microsoft’s GamesPass service, the game would be coming to Nintendo’s Switch. Well, forget that. Sort of.
‘Cause Cuphead is coming to Switch all by itself.
“It’s no secret that Cuphead is a direct descendent of retro action games like Contra on the NES, so it’s surreal to finally have one of our own games on a Nintendo system,” said Studio MDHR Co-Director Chad Moldenhauer. “We’re beyond thrilled to be able to bring Cuphead to a brand new audience on Nintendo Switch. Playing the game on a console with such a big focus on local co-op really reminds Jared and I of our days gaming together as kids.”
MDHR press release
But wait, there’s more!
While the game will be premiering on the Switch, it’s getting a major update on all platforms. According to MDHR, the new content will offer some things that gamers have been asking for too.
Highlights include “playable Mugman in single-player, new fully animated cutscenes, never-before-seen art and fight intros, ten additional languages, a plethora of bug fixes, and plenty of secrets for players to discover.” You can check out the full list of what’s coming to all versions of the game here.
As for when all of this is happening, it’d be next month. The Switch version and the full update will arrive day and date, on April 18th.
