What’s the title-holder for the single-biggest opening weekend in the history of entertainment? According to Take-Two, that’d be Red Dead Redemption 2.
Big time
Red Dead Redemption 2 was easily one of the most hotly anticipated games ever. The fan base, which includes the legion of general followers that developer Rockstar has, was frenzied from the day it was announced. So honestly, it should come as no shock that the game has cleaned up. Though just how much it’s made in its opening weekend might be a little bit of a surprise.
Take-Two, owner of Rockstar Games, says that the game is now its second biggest launch ever, sitting right behind GTAV. That game, if you remember, made headlines with its 1 billion USD opening. But how is it number 2 while still being number 1? Easy.
As industry site MCV points out, GTAV might have made more, but it had more time to do it in. Grand Theft Auto V was launched on a Tuesday. That’s the standard launch day for video games, and yet one that was eschewed by Take Two as goes RDR2. Instead the western-themed title released last Friday. And that means that the game made its total in just three days.
Oh, almost forgot, that “total”? It’s 725 million USD. That’s right, Red Dead Redemption 2 has made almost three-quarters of a billion dollars in… three days. Now that’s quite the big score.
The game is available right now.
