VR “sci-fi thriller” Downward Spiral takes gamers to Horus Station on PC and PS4

Virtual reality has yet to truly catch on, but there are a few semi-hidden gems out there. It looks like there might be cause for optimism with a new sci-fi title called Downward Spiral: Horus Station.

The spiral never ends

Not bad, huh? As first-person experiences go, VR has been extremely lacking. It shouldn’t be, but there are only a few solid FPS titles on any VR platform, and none of them are all that memorable. Some of them try some interesting stuff too, like Doom VFR, but it’s been hit and miss.

Downward Spiral though, kind of looks cool. The game obviously has a zero-g gimmick happening, that makes it look more Descent than Doom. Well, Descent with a grapple gun. All on all though, it looks pretty neat, and the theme is cool.

While you don’t see much hardware in use in that trailer, be aware that there’s a cool sounding arsenal available to you here. 3rd Eye Studios says that you’ll be able to make use of “bolt throwers, rail guns, and arc welders to take out threats”. So there seems to be a fair bit of action to be had. This one isn’t all exploration. Speaking of, the poster for it looks like the game will be taking you platetside too, which could be interesting.

Also worth mentioning is that the VR functionality is apparently optional. The game will be available for the PC and the PS4, but it seems like the real hook is when you add a PSVR, Oculus Touch, HTC Vive, or Windows Mixed Reality viewer.

Downward Spiral: Horus Station will arrive this spring.
