Topps debuts Preacher trading card packs

Harkening back to the days when trading cards were ubiquitous, the brand new TV show based on the Preacher comic book is set to have packs of cards from Topps NOW.

Topps Preacher card“The TOPPS NOW program is the first of its kind for a television show because it offers fans an immediate collectible,” said Jeff Heckman, Topps’ Director of New Product Development & eCommerce Marketplace. “Instead of having to wait months for a trading card, they can order it the next day. Preacher has gotten great reviews, and the TOPPS NOW trading cards will make the perfect keepsake for any fan.”

Preacher has indeed gotten some very good reviews thus far, and with the dearth of merch surrounding the formerly stagnant DC/Vertigo property, I have to imagine these cards will be a hot commodity. Fortunately, they sound pretty great.

Released in packs of five cards each, installments of the first series will be available after each season one episode of the AMC show for a period of 24 hours, and will solely be offered via Topps.com. Every card will star a big moment from the episode that it’s connected to, so you should have a whole season in trading card form by the time all is said and done.

Each pack will cost you $19.99 USD, which is definitely a premium price for trading cards. Let’s be honest though, the physical card market isn’t what it was years back, so it’s just cool that we’re getting these at all in a non-digital format. And shipping is free within the US, so that’s something to take the edge off at least.

The cards are available right now for the first episode (which aired last night), so get over to Topps’ website to grab a set before they’re gone. And then maybe pick up a binder and some card pages.
