Toy Fair ’25: Playmates continues its TMNT retro line, plus Tales and 2012

Playmates Toys has been the biggest name in Turtles since the beginning, and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

How’ve you liked the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles retro line from Playmates Toys? While some (us included) thought it would be short-lived when it launched a few years back, the lineup has been absolutely rolling, bringing a selection of iconic action figures and vehicles back to retail for the first time in decades. Playmates has rumbled through a good deal of these to date, but there are still some heavy-hitters lurking out there, just waiting for re-issues.

The company showed off some of those this past weekend at New York Toy Fair, and we’re happy to report there are some massive fan-faves returning soon. Chief among those is probably the Classic Sewer Lair Playset, which unlike last year’s Technodrome, will thankfully be at full 1:1 scale. Joining the Turtles’ hangout will be another legendary vehicle, the Mutant Module. With a version of it being oft-seen on the cartoon, it’s kind of shocking that the Module hasn’t been remade already, but we’re not going to complain too much. We’re just pleased as sewer-punch that it’s coming, and like the Lair, it’ll be on the way to stores this summer.

Joining the above will be a selection of new stuff from Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, plus another return, one that a pretty big section of fans might’ve been waiting for. Yes, we’re talking about the 2012 version of the TMNT, which will be hitting stores once again with a full first wave. Look for the TMNT, Shredder, and Metalhead to kick things off.
